I figured I’d finally dip my toes in to the whole Top Ten Tuesday shenanigans. Usually, I tend towards reviews rather than lists. However, the nice thing about lists is that they allow you to quickly highlight many books or authors at once in ways that they might not always be viewed. It’s a fun, different way of introducing people to books that they might not even have enough interest to click on a long-form review of.

Today, however, the focus is not on individual books… but on authors! Specifically, authors who are just a bucket of fun to follow on social media. In no particular order, we’ve got….

Chuck Wendig

Chuck is one of those guys on Twitter who’s interesting, engaging, and just a bit eccentric. Specifically, he’s really into heirloom apples. And I am HERE for it. I originally discovered Chuck due to newest novel, Wanderers, but you had best believe I stuck around for the fruit and witticisms.

Jeff VanderMeer

Jeff is the author of the critically-acclaimed Area X trilogy, beginning with Annihilation (Now A Feature Film™). You know what else he is? An avid naturalist. My dude LOVES his wildlife, especially birds. Birbs. Adorblers. You get the idea.

Though he’s best known for Annihilation, my favorite book of his has to be City of Saints and Madmen, followed closely by Borne.

T. Frohock

Look, T. I’m sorry. But I can never let you live this one down. The GIANT FROTHING BUCKET OF EGG NOODLES will never not be immensely amusing to me.

When Teresa isn’t busy making far too many noodles, she’s awesome to follow for cat pictures, awesome news about her books, and for her very real insights into life. Her Los Nefilim series is one that I recommend to literally everyone, especially in conjunction with her essay on toxic masculinity.

Tyler Hayes

Tyler is far and away the most positive, uplifting person to follow on Twitter. He essentially is his character, Tippy, from The Imaginary Corpse. Tyler’s tweets are guaranteed to brighten your day. He’s friendly, approachable, and always up to engaging with a fan! His gif game is pretty darn on-point, too.

Nicole Kornher-Stace

I was recommended Archivist Wasp by Nicole a while back, and upon discovering that I adored it immediately checked to see if she happened to have a Twitter. I haven’t regretted it since. Nicole is fun to follow and always has funny or interesting insights to share. Her book recommendations are awesome, and have put a few nonfiction books on my radar that I otherwise never would have discovered. Her whole brand is essentially aro/ace character relationships, and I love it.

Sam Sykes

I’ll be honest. I don’t really understand Sam Sykes 90% of the time. I don’t think Sam Sykes understands Sam Sykes 90% of the time. But damn, he’s entertaining. He also wrote Seven Blades in Black, which I’ll eventually one of these days get around to reading (eventually).

Krista D. Ball

ZOMG PUPPY. Krista’s whole timeline is puppy lately. Get your puppy. All the puppy. Need it. Good puppy. Good Jersey. Precious baby.

Plus, you get the added bonus of Krista calling out dumb people on the internet, which is 100% always a joy.

Alix E. Harrow

Alix is just such a joy? She’s so kind and friendly and has the best family? Seriously, she manages to brighten my timeline every time she shows up. I managed to snag an ARC of The Ten Thousand Doors of January back before her debut hit the shelves, and it’s been such a joy watching her succeed. Her whole social media presence feels like she’s chatting with a group of close friends.

Amal El-Mohtar

Amal is the co-author of This Is How You Lose the Time War, which she wrote with Max Gladstone. She’s also the author of many short stories, including the Hugo Award-winning Seasons of Glass and Iron. On Twitter, she’s exactly how you’d hope a poet would be. She’s surreal and delightful, and clearly living a joyful life.

Devin Madson

There are some authors you follow for the heirloom apples. Some you follow for the hilarious joke tweets. And then, there are some you follow for their research on how better to behead, stab, or kick their protagonists in the nuts. Devin writes about very stabby characters who stab, behead, and murder while plotting more of the same. You gotta love her. Her debut novel, We Ride the Storm, releases in a newly edited edition from Orbit in June – but the ebook is available now!
